It's not as straightforward as MK64's system, but also provides less interesting interactions between items (and therefore players), too. It's a bit hard to understand at first and isn't very intuitive. Finally, I legitimately dislike the power-up system in DKR. Now I find myself dreading it more than anything. Maybe I just prefer more traditional experiences, but the impress factor that it originally had is long gone at this point. The campaign in DKR is nice, but it might be a bit too long or tedious, if I'm honest. Makes it confusing to navigate and makes the tracks themselves a lot more boring. Also, iirc, don't they re-use graphics for different courses? I really dislike that in racers. There's no crazy hard turns or interesting racing line decisions or anything like that, which is something Mario Kart does exceedingly well. That's actually one of the biggest flaws in the game, how relatively barebones and simple those tracks are. ![]() ![]() I would definitely argue against DKR's tracks being better or even that good. Mario Kart 64 is definitely the one I prefer, although the series got much better after 64.
